bunk beds

The boys got bunk beds.
We made a trip to IKEA to pick them up.
They came unfinished, so we painted them.
We laid them all out in the garage.
That's ALOT of wood!

We first primed all the boards, and then painted them with
oil based paint (a light gray color). Then we sealed it all with Poly acrylic.
Because I am NOT painting them again!

Here they are in the boys room.
They don't take up any more space than his twin bed.
So there is still lots of space for playing.

The boys love climbing up and down.
And occasionally jumping off.
from the top.
Sounds like they are coming through the ceiling.
They love playing on the top bunk.
Or the 'UP' as Tanner called it.
He said, "bubba, you sleep on the up and I sleep on the down."

For the first 3 or so nights Tanner wouldn't sleep in there.
He started out on the bottom, but Maddox wasn't being quiet enough
for him so he would get up, come out and say,
"bubba not being quiet. I sleep in my crib."

He went to the crib.
Emma came to the bunk bed to sleep.
And then, it happened.
Tanner said, "baby sister can have my crib."
And he never looked back!

Poor Emma.
She cried and cried.
She knew she wasn't going to get to sleep
in the bunk beds anymore.

And she hasn't.
Tanner has been in there ever since.
He's only fell out once.

so far.

I made Tanner a 'T' for his down bunk.
Just like Maddox's 'M'.
I made them from those little round, wooden tables
with the screw on legs. You can find them at GW all
the time and super cheap too.
(Tuturial here.)

Here's my review on the IKEA bunk beds.
We love them.
They are cute, sturdy, and easy to assemble.
I like the way they look.
They are made out of soft pine wood so I do
recommend sealing them with a poly acrylic even
if you aren't painting them.

Here's the thing.
The ladder can be placed on either the left or right side which is good,
except you are left with holes. I filled the holes with wood filler,
and plan to touch up the paint.

If you are painting, I can save you some time and money.
There are 14 slats that holds each mattress.
You only need to paint 14. Not all 28, like we did.
The 14 unpainted ones will go under the bottom bunk.
No one will ever know.

Also you DO need to paint that board running along the bottom.
It holds up the top bunk and is seen from underneath.
The board with the BIG, HUGE warning sticker,
Yeah.
It shows too.
Who knew?
I am planning on painting these as well.

All in all, we are very happy with them.

Good Night!

Definitely believe that which you said. Your favourite justification appeared
to be on the web the easiest factor to take into account of.
I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while other folks think about issues that they just don't realize about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest and defined out the entire thing without having side-effects , other people could take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks

Hi:

I read one review that says that the top slats bend a little bit. Is that true? I am planning on buying 2 of this. One for my daughter's room and one for my twins.

Thanks,
Leticia
